A Santa Barbara Ranch Wedding

Everyone knows that Santa Barbara is known as the “Riviera” of the United States.  And most know that Santa Barbara has its own wine country.  But fewer know that Santa Barbara actually has ranchland – from the Santa Ynez Valley surrounded by mountains- to the ranchland by the coast that touches the Pacific Ocean , overlooking our Channel Islands.   The great news about any of Santa Barbara’s outdoor locations is Read more »

Well, a good fun murder mystery, anyway.  One of our favorite events this year included the Howard Carden School’s annual fundraiser , “Murder in Swingtime”.  Fundraiser Event Chair Kerry Lee Dickey of Santa Barbara Wine Country Weddings & Events wanted something fresh for a school fundraiser that actually Read more »

Let Us Toast to a Wonderful Thanksgiving!

Heap high the board with plenteous cheer and gather to the feast,
And toast the sturdy Pilgrim band whose courage never ceased.
~Alice W. Brotherton

On Thanksgiving Day, all over America, families sit down to dinner at the same moment – halftime.  ~Author Unknown

The funny thing about Thanksgiving, or any huge meal, is that you spend 12 hours shopping for it and then chopping and cooking and braising and blanching.  Then it takes 20 minutes to eat it and everybody sort of sits around in a food coma, and then it takes four hours to clean it up.  ~Ted Allen

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!
~Author Unknown

Thanksgiving is an emotional holiday.  People travel thousands of miles to be with people they only see once a year.  And then discover once a year is way too often.  ~Johnny Carson

Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.  ~E.P. Powell

Private Family Estate Wedding

Lauren and Matthew couldn’t have picked a more idyllic setting on a more beautiful Santa Barbara day to celebrate their wedding with family and friends.  The whole intimate affair was on a lush private family estate in Santa Barbara.  After a heartwarming outdoor ceremony, the guests were treated to specialty cocktails chosen by the couple – Appletinis and Chocolate Martinis. Also, a lovely selection of passed hors d’oeuvres kept the tummys from grumbling while family pictures were taken and the guests mingled.  Since most of the guests were family and close personal friends of the family, one got the sense that this was also a family reunion with lots of animated chatter and laughter.

Once the dining space was ready, we invited the guests around to the the back garden for dinner and dancing.  The menu was robust with carved to order New York Sirloin with Horseradish and Cabernet Sauce,  Herb Roasted Chicken with Lemon Thyme Jus, Sun-dried Tomato and Artichoke Pasta, Roasted Asparagus Spears, Classic Caesar Salad, and Blue Cheese and Walnut Salad with Champagne Vinaigrette. The servers offered both red and white wines to the guests during dinner and poured a lovely sparkling wine for the Champagne Toast after the guests were seated and enjoying the feast.

Havana Nights – Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Gala

At last Saturday’s, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Annual Gala, the evening was balmy, the lively rhythms of Cuban Band ’Somos Son‘ was intoxicating, and the Fidel Castros were plenty.  As guests arrived, clad in festive attire and Cuban costumes, they entered the world of Havana at Night: hand-rolled cigars with a fire-pit in the outdoor cabana, enticing native cuisine, El Presidente margaritas, tropical flora and fauna, twinkly light strings overhead, and loungy indoor cabanas.

Santa Barbara Wine Country Wedding

Melissa Musgrove Photography

This May wedding could not have had a more picture perfect backdrop. The private home in Santa Barbara’s own wine country, the Santa Ynez Valley, was setting to one of the loveliest weddings I have enjoyed being a part of . It was an amazing wine country wedding location. The bride and groom looked gorgeous and the groom’s Scottish heritage was incorporated in little details throughout the celebration: from his kilt to the wedding menu itself.

The events team working this wedding included the area’s best wedding professionals. From Ventura Party Rentals, Music by Bonnie, “day-of” coordination by LaFete, wedding cake by Decadence, lighting by Premier Event Design , EOS Transportation, and the talented and wonderful photographer Melissa Musgrove, this was an “all star” cast.
